2003 - Member's newsletter introduced.
During the early months of 2003 the Committee of Management was concerned about the falling membership numbers, particularly male members. It was agreed that one of the contributing factors to falling membership was poor communication with club members.
In an attempt to improve communication amongst the club's membership the Committee of Management decided to introduce a monthly membership newsletter. The newsletter was available to members in the week following the monthly committee meeting and proved to be both popular and successful as a club communication tool.
The first issue on the 'Member's Newsletter' was published in May 2003 and in that issue the members were asked to come up with a name for the newsletter. The competition to name the newsletter was 'won' by Lily Crawford - the very, very young daughter of the club's then Course Curator, Tom Crawford. Lily's winning entry was 'The Red Cliffs Whacker' and so the monthly newsletter became known by that name. The last edition of the member's newsletter was published in November 2009 when it gave way to electronic communication.
Below you will find links to many of the issues of the 'Whacker' over the years it was published. Each issue contains a snapshot of what was happening at the club at the time and information on the major issues the club faced. Each issue number is a link - so just click on it!
