Summary. The impact on the club of the flood in the early months of 2011 should not be under estimated.
The early years of the 2000's were a 'mixed bag' in the life of the Red Cliffs Golf Club. The decade started with the course being in the best condition since it was established. But not withstanding this situation, membership numbers were falling and the club was often in a very tight financial position. In an attempt to improve the club's financial position the lawn turf enterprise was established in 2003 / 2004, but this enterprise was just getting off the ground. Although the Mallee district was a declared drought zone, it wasn't until 2006 / 2007 that the drought started to impact on the Sunraysia irrigation area. Irrigation water entitlements were cut, across the board and as a result the course started to deteriorate due to a lack of water. The club entered into arrangements with the local water authority to take irrigation drainage water from the Red Cliffs irrigation district and this was just starting to have a positive effect on the standard of the course. AND THEN IT RAINED & RAINED & RAINED. |
